What Scout does

Scout is a tool for capturing screenshots of retail web pages and organising them into research projects. It consists of a Chrome browser extension and a web application at scout-eta-sage.vercel.app.

What data we collect

Scout collects and processes only what is necessary to provide the service:

  • Account information: your email address and name, used to authenticate you and associate your projects with your account.
  • Page URLs:the URL of the retail page you choose to capture, submitted explicitly by you when you press “Capture”.
  • Page screenshots: a screenshot of the page at the time of capture, stored in your Scout project.
  • Project and retailer metadata: names, labels, and settings you create within Scout projects.

The Chrome extension stores your authentication token and last-selected project ID locally on your device using Chrome’s built-in storage APIs. This data never leaves your device except as part of authenticated API requests to Scout.

What we do not collect

  • We do not collect your browsing history.
  • We do not monitor your activity on pages you visit.
  • We do not collect keystrokes, mouse movements, or form contents.
  • We do not collect any data from pages you visit unless you explicitly press “Capture” on that page.

How we use your data

Data collected is used solely to:

  • Authenticate you and secure access to your projects.
  • Store and display your captured screenshots and project data.
  • Improve the reliability of the Scout service.

We do not sell, rent, or transfer your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to Scout’s core function.

Data storage and security

Screenshots and project data are stored on Vercel infrastructure. Authentication is handled via Clerk. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. We retain your data for as long as your account is active.

Your rights

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. We will respond within 30 days.
